Oh. My. Gosh. Guys.
I’ve done it! I’ve been writing!
For those of you who are unaware or are, perhaps, new to this site that I fondly call my blog, it just so happens that I am writing a book.
It is about Psychics, and my protagonist discovers a secret Government plot that she, along with the resistance she and her friends form, have to destroy.
So, yeah…that’s a thing…
There’s no real continuity between these snippets, so you don’t need to have read the first one to understand this, but if you want to, go here.
This next snippet takes place right after Jasmine and her friends have formed the very beginning of the resistance. As things so often are at the very beginning of a challenging task, everyone involved is very peppy and confident. That’s all you really need going into this scene. Enjoy!
I rubbed my sweaty palms on my jeans in an attempt to dry them. Sixty people were waiting inside that door, and they expected me—me, of all people—to lead them. Chris walked past me to go inside the cramped meeting room of his apartment complex. I felt him squeeze my shoulder reassuringly before he went inside with everyone else.
I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Sixty hopeful, nervous, and determined faces turned to look at me. I forced a smile. I only hoped it didn’t look too manufactured. I cleared my throat.
“So, I’m reasonably sure you all know why we’re here. If you don’t, you’re the custodian and I’ll have to ask you to leave.” There were some laughs at that, and my smile came easier. Then I became serious. “As you all know, we’ve been lied to. By the people and organization we thought we could trust.” The room sobered at that. “They’ve manipulated us. Used our powers against us.” An angry murmur rippled through the room. I took another breath before continuing. “We’re all here because we want to do something about it. I have had some people tell me that they want me to lead this effort; I don’t know that I’m the best for this job, but, if you want me, I will do my very best to fix this; alongside all of you.”
The room went completely silent.
I held my breath.
A petite telepath stood. “I will follow you,” she said firmly.
A pyrokinetic stood next. “I will follow you.”
The room became a wave of standing people, all proclaiming “I will follow you” in varying levels of volume. Soon, the entire room was on their feet. I caught Alanna’s eye and saw that she was beaming up at me. I blinked tears out of my eyes and cleared my throat.
“Then I’ll lead you.”
A cheer rose up from the Psychics in front of me until it reached a crescendo.
I grinned like an idiot.
So…I hope you like it! If you are so inclined, you can like this post, comment telling me what you think, or follow the blog if you’re interested in seeing more of my writing. If you don’t want to do any of those things, then…just don’t, I guess.
