Okay, so, update on the sickness of death I mentioned earlier: I have strep. That’s fun. They gave me antibiotics, though, and now I feel like 98% better. I woke up and I was like, “Whoa. What is this? Is this the real life, or is this just fantasy?” Well, no, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, I’m home today, because I’m still contagious. So I’m wearing my new socks that are so cute, I must now share them with the world:
Look! They’re li’l pink foxes! I’ve been wearing them far too long.
And also I just watched “Sleeping Beauty” again for the first time in many years. So, like, I’m having a whole new appreciation for Prince Phillip?
He’s a total badass. He’s like, “Naw, dad, it’s cool, Imma just marry this girl because I’m in love with her.” And so he goes to do that, and when he’s captured by Maleficent, he’s totally with it when the Fairies come to break him out and he has to battle his way out through an army of demons, cut through a wall of thorns, and kill a FRICKIN’ DRAGON FROM HELL so he can kiss his true love who happened to also be the princess to wake her from her cursed sleep. I mean, come on. Pretty cool.
Also the movie’s really pretty. Just a little side note.
Unfortunately, the fairies really bug the crap out of me. They’re dumb and selfish and they’re the whole reason Maleficent finds Aurora in the first place. Like, dudes, you had ONE job. If you could stop arguing about whether the stupid dress should be pink or blue, it’d all be chill.
Anyway, I decided to watch it mostly because I watched “Maleficent” for the first time several weeks ago and I wanted the comparison. Conclusion: the original is much better.
I mean, I can appreciate the sentiment of Maleficent: all villains have a motivation, and no villain thinks they’re the bad guy.
Unfortunately, they didn’t do it well, I don’t think. The message was so, so heavy handed. “Men BAD, fae MISUNDERSTOOD. King Stefan SO SO EVIL, Maleficent SO SO SAD AND MISUNDERSTOOD.” It got pretty face palm-y. Also, as pointed out by Older Brother, Phillip totally gets jipped. Like, he does what he’s asked–he kisses the girl, tries to save her, and, not only does it not work, he doesn’t even get his awesome battle scene because Maleficent is no longer evil.
Anyway. Rant over.
So I’m planning on going back to school tomorrow, and doing voice, dance, and I have my job interview. Wish me luck! 🙂
